Why mountain guides from Kals?
We live right at the foot of the Grossglockner and grew up in the mountains around it. Every one of our guides has completed hundreds of Glockner tours. Around 20 active mountain guides belong to our association, joined by many more guides from all over Austria whom we work with. Together we guide well over 1,000 guests up the Grossglockner every year, and with suitable weather and good physical fitness the success rate on the normal route is close to 100 percent.
Cooperation and learning between the older and the younger generation are a hallmark of our association: through our youth programme we regularly inspire young alpinists to take on the demanding training to become state-certified mountain and ski guides.
Kals is the ideal starting point for the Grossglockner and offers the best-developed network of huts on the way to the summit. From the Lucknerhaus, easily reached via the Kalser Glocknerstrasse, the tour starts at almost 2,000 m above sea level.

Ice Park
Austria's largest artificial ice climbing park
The mountain guides Matthias Wurzer and Vittorio Messini came up with the idea of implementing this idea in East Tyrol after several ice climbing trips to Canada. In the shady outlet of the Gschlöß gorge, near the Matrei Tauernhaus (an alpine lodge), they finally found what they were looking for. Being so easily accessible and with low objective risks, it is the main base for ice climbing courses!
