Meet your guide at the Defregger Haus (2963m), between 19:00 and 20:00h, where you have a briefing with him and an equipment check.
There is an easy, marked trail that gets you in 2.5 hours from the Johannis Hut to the Defregger Haus. You can either walk, or most folks take a hut taxi from Hinterbichl to the Johannis Hut.
After an early breakfast the next morning we walk for half an hour on an easy trail before we rope up and step on the glacier around sunrise. This is one of the biggest ice fields in Austria and there are many crevasses which have to be navigated. The last exposed snow ridge to the summit is the high light of the ascent, which takes about 3.5-4h
The descent follows the same route back to the Defregger Haus, where you can pick up your stashed gear and after a farewell with your guide continue down to the valley.
