If you are a good skier there is nothing better than climbing Austria´s highest mountain with skis and enjoy the fantastic ride down. You can either choose a day-tour or take some more time (2 days) with an overnight stay at Stüdlhütte (2.802m). The meeting point with your guide for the winter ascent to Grossglockner is at Lucknerhaus (1.918m) in Kals, East Tyrol.
From there you will walk about 900m to Stüdlhütte (about 2.5 hours). From the beginning of March until mid of Mai the hut is open and provides the perfect location to stay overnight. The next morning you continue via the Ködnitz glacier and a short climbing part to the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte (3.454 m). Depending on the snow and wind conditions, you will either leave your skis just underneath or beyond the Erzherzog-Johann-Hütte. From there you will climb the summit wearing crampons.
The descent and downhill ride follows pretty much the route of the ascent.
